Since then, the organization has grown rapidly to demonstrate as a game changer amongst its members (Farmer groups) just right at the beginning of its pilot in northern UgandaSince then, the organization has grown rapidly to demonstrate as a game changer amongst its members (Farmer groups) just right at the beginning of its pilot in northern Uganda

OUR MODEL

Wang Tic Agricultural Foundation is being run on a cooperative type of farming where farmers are put into groups so that management of groups is easy at lower level. Our system is based on a one-acre piece of land provided by each farmer to handle food crops and another acre piece of land to do cash crops. This is manageable at household level because of the sizes of land involved in production.

While we continue with oil seed multiplication currently, we will also distribute free seedlings of both fruit trees and non-fruit trees that should counter the adverse climate changes. This is done on the farmers garden and even along the major roads in the region.

WHO WE WORK WITH

  • The women and youth in rural areas
  • Individualized farmer groups
  • The churches
  • The mosques
  • Schools
  • Communities
  • Households

We work together with the above groups throughout the length and breadth of Uganda particularly the northern region to be the source they turn to for supplies without charge and mentorship without compensation as we re-ignite the need to farm. In Phase Two, to take what is remaining from the initial distribution of supplies and knowledge to assist those who wish to start or expand commercial farming. Together, from the smallest backyard vegetable garden to the largest produce, poultry, animal and fish farms WAF will boost up the annual earning potential of farmers in northern Uganda while at the same time improving the quality of life through healthier, unpreserved, more naturally grown food for all.

IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT

The depletion of the forest and tree crops, due to demands for fuel wood and timber activities has increased run off and soil erosion leading to loss of soil nutrients, harsh climatic conditions and disturbance to biodiversity. The Project have started on activities that conserves the environment for instance; Fruit tree and non-Fruit tree planting and indigenous tree species within the communities.

Where we are

We have currently started with raising seeds for our seed bank (e.g. Simsim, Soya beans, Black beans, Sunflower, Vegetables seedlings, Coffee and Cocoa, fruit trees and non-fruit trees seedlings) at our various demonstration gardens in Lira City and Otuke District for distribution to farmers. Construction of farmer field school (at Barkeo village in Otuke district) is soon starting together with the construction of mega greenhouseswith capacity of 50,000 seedlings per greenhouse that will take care of seed germinations especially Coffee, Cocoa and vegetables seedlings.
